We are currently registered with a dentist in Oldfield Park, but haven't been for years due to the inconvenience in getting there. The last time I phoned to try to make an appointment for a check-up, the receptionist said they were fully booked for (if I recall correctly) the next six weeks. That's a fat lot of good if you've got a toothache. And they don't even open on Saturdays. So that means having to take leave to visit the dentist with my wife.
The situation is even more difficult now as I have a baby daughter and will need to get her to a dentist in the near future.
What do people do here and are there special arrangements for babies/children (eg. free treatment at the private dentists)?
I don't honestly know what to do, Neil. We are relatively new here and any NHS dentists we once went to are many, many miles away.
My wife is pregnant and has had to go to the dentists in Pickwick Road. As far as I know, she is still going to have to pay for her checkups, even though dental health needs to be more closely monitored during pregnancy.
There does not seem to be the remotest chance that local dentists, even those who have previously taken on NHS patients, are prepared to do so for any new people to the area. And there's a lot of new people coming to Corsham, so I assume the dentist's are going to be making a lot of money.....!
Hi Neil
Hanlon & Gardner in Pickwick Road ? has been taking on children only as NHS patients. Market Place Practice in Melksam may still be taking adults under NHS.
Bill
Well, some good news and some not so good news. I was pleased to be able to register with the Melksham one in July. I was told there was a 10-week waiting list for first appointments but that they would send a letter nearer the time. Three months later, no letter. I've just phoned them to find they had forgotten to text me (first I knew about texting me). So, now I have to wait another 10 weeks. What a great system.
